The Devil is in the Details

I ran across this very interesting article the other day. It’s been making me pay attention to all the noises around me. What am I really hearing and what is making that sound? It’s fascinating to get a peek behind the curtain of movie making magic. It boggles my mind to think how much effort goes in to each single second of films. I can imagine excruciating meetings where they are saying things like, “the zipper isn’t loud enough”, “that sounds like the squeak of a 16th century door not an 18th century door!” or “we need more cow bell!”. Well, maybe not. But it is so very true how the devil is in the details and professionals in many artistic fields agonize to get it just right. I know I spend many countless hours editing fine details in pictures to get exactly what I want and remove tiny distractions. Distractions that many people might not see but then again it might be what draws their eye away and changes the focus of the image for them.

Anyway, I thought you might find this interesting and next time you watch a film you might hear it in a whole different light.
